Rice or Chips?

Panel discussion at Leiths 40th anniversary

We were tickled pink to be invited to Leiths 40th anniversary party at the fabulous Bush Hall in London last week. I shook Prue Leiths hand and thanked her for the Bible, which sort of came out wrong and chatted to Yotam Ottelenghi!

Friday 23rd January was the private view party for the 12x2014 series. We hired 20 Wensum Street for the night and had a great turnout. We had to clean all our hired glasses!

I like records. I like vinyl. I like music. I can't think of a better thing to spend my money on than a new record. As a kid the charts were really important. They were more important than anything else. We all listened to them on the Radio – often ready to press record on the Hi-Fi's tape machine.

I am not a policeman. I am not wholly sure of any particular law. But I thought double yellow lines meant that you can't park at anytime on them – and if you did it is obstructive and dangerous, forcing other drivers and cyclists out in to the middle of the road. I also thought cars were not allowed to park on pavements.

NASA's Pioneer programme was a series of unmanned space missions designed for planetary exploration. Pioneer 10 (launched in March 1972) and Pioneer 11 (launched in August 1973) were sent to explore the outer planets of the Solar System and then eventually leave the Solar System – off into outer space.

HELP

Bee screen print graphic design illustration norwich UK

The bees need help! A few months ago I heard a radio news article about the plight of the bees and the steps being taken to encourage the population of the UK to grow more nectar rich plants to help bees survive and prosper.

Work Experience

Picture of Cereal and Kinfolk magazines.

“What do you want to be when you grow up?” As a naïve seven year old that question appeared both harmless and irrelevant to me. Now, at fifteen, I find it daunting and difficult to respond to. This meant the prospect of work experience made me both anxious and excited.

So Argentina are in the final! That is a relief. I have effectively wagered on them getting there and winning the World Cup – having produced a celebratory screen print that represents the world's best player and the World Cup in Brazil.

PYRAMIDS 12x2014 June

screen print graphic design illustration norwich UK

Drawing with my children has reminded me of how to create new worlds – and of the pleasure of just drawing for drawings sake. They create worlds full of soldiers, monsters, aliens, adventurers, super heroes, rockets, tanks and ships all set within a new universe.

Leiths advert on the London Underground

It was thrilling to see our advertising campaign for Leiths go live this week on the London Underground as well as appear in the weekend broadsheets. The response has been fantastic and the open evening is already over 75% full!

The Scottish independence referendum will take place on Thursday, September 18, 2014. If a majority of those who vote want Scotland to be independent then Scotland would become an independent country after a process of negotiations. Following the negotiations Scotland would leave the United Kingdom and become a new and separate state. – Gov.uk What would happen to the Union Flag if the Scottish were to leave the United Kingdom?

Hot Source this month is looking at inclusive or accessible design, in other words taking an approach to developing websites and other software where ALL users are catered for. This is not an issue about compromise but about best practice.

Why I love Hot Source

Hot Source logos

Three years ago I jumped at the chance to join a focus group formed of creative and digital companies working in Norwich to think about creating a better sense of community. Having recently started working in Norwich after a decade or so in East London I had some strong feelings about the afterwork culture here in Norwich. Easy to sum up in that there wasn’t one! All that creative work done over beers in bars didn’t seem to be happening and coupled with the general sense of competition rather than collaboration there seemed to be a space to make something happen.
