NASA's Pioneer programme was a series of unmanned space missions designed for planetary exploration. Pioneer 10 (launched in March 1972) and Pioneer 11 (launched in August 1973) were sent to explore the outer planets of the Solar System and then eventually leave the Solar System – off into outer space.
Both Pioneer 10 and 11 had a golden plaque attached to them showing a man and a woman with information about the origin and the creators of the Pioneer craft. This information was intended for any extraterrestrials who might one day find them.
I was thinking that if the plaques were updated for the 2010s then NASA ought to follow David Beckham’s lead and stick a few tattoos on the man and woman.
This is the ninth installment of my 12x2014 series. I have no agenda – just to take an idea and apply it to a screen print. Do one every month in 2014 and initially print 12 of each design, using GFSmith Colourplan paper.
